Cloves are the sweet, aromatic dried flower buds of the clove tree. It is used as a spice in cuisines around the world due to its warm, pungent aroma and taste. The spice is also widely used for its many medical benefits. A new study support’s the use of cloves for dental pain relief, and for relieving fever.

History and Origin
Cloves have been transported to the Middle East and Europe well before the first century AD. Cloves, along with nutmeg and pepper which were highly prized even in Roman times.

Cloves were traded by Arabs during the middle ages. In the late fifteenth century, the Portuguese forcefully took over the trade, eventually losing it to the Dutch and the British. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, cloves were worth at least their weight in gold.

Uses and Benefits

Storage
Whole Clove’s should be kept in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark and dry place.
